The 100 Top Creatives 2021: Samuel Barclay
One hundred creatives with a thousand facets: AD introduces you to the top 100 creatives. Samuel Barclay, whose studio Case Design approaches architecture and furniture design with equal craftsmanship, reveals to us his secret passion.
Samuel Barclay combines two passions at once: his architecture firm Case Design in Mumbai, India, and the associated furniture label Case Goods. What both have in common is the handcrafted gesture with which Case sometimes creates groundbreaking school buildings, sometimes guesthouses for a small eco-resort in Zanzibar (@kizikula). Or a luminaire: Brass-framed glass cylinders filter the light of the "Seven Tube Light" sevenfold softly - and uniquely chic.
The eco-resort Kikizula in Zanzibar is one of Samuel Barclay's latest projects.

My (not so) secret passion is ...
My really secret passion is ...
My dearest possession ...
... is a Nakashima chair I found in India that Mira Nakashima personally restored in the workshop her father built in Pennsylvania.
What I would like to invent ...
... is a thing that produces more than it consumes!
My favorite project ...
... is my own home - I'll never be done with that!
A thought that came to me recently in the shower ...
... is that I need to renovate our bathroom sometime. Good or bad, I always focus on what's right in front of me!
