Lorenz + Kaz
Two Germans in Milan: The designs of Lorenz + Kaz are characterized by Nordic temperament and Italian design. For AD, the two are among the best designers in Germany.
On "Coco", the upholstered chairs of Catharina Lorenz and Steffen Kaz, the elephant round of the G7 already met. An international stress test for which their latest design is still waiting. After all, "Mint", produced by Rossin, is about waiting room modules. The two moved to Italy in the mid-1990s, founded their design office in Milan in 2001, and have since worked there for global players such as De Padova, Alcantara, and Antonio Lupi.
In public places, "Mint" is meant to sweeten the waiting time.
AD: What or who has influenced you the most in your career?
Lorenz and Kaz: Our studies and various internships certainly set the tone for our careers, but we were most influenced by working with Ettore Sottsass and James Irvine.
What material do you prefer to work with?
Initially, we designed a lot of wooden chairs. In the course of time, however, our fields of activity have expanded considerably, and we now work with a wide variety of materials and manufacturing techniques.
What characterizes your style, with which adjectives would you describe it?
Nordic functionality combined with Italian "bella figura".
For the "Woodyzoody animals" project based on Giulio Iacchetti's idea, 12 designers designed animals made of wood. From Lorenz + Kaz comes this fox.
