Big station with wallpaper: In Milan, decorator Eric Egan invited to his vibrant domicile - and demonstrated ingenious wall patterns.

Eric Egan Showroom Apartment Milan Wallpaper Salone

"Great, the living room now looks like an old lady's room!" When Eric Egan, decorator with US roots, talks about his Milan showroom apartment (he owns a second one for sleeping), irony is in the air like a fleeting perfume. The grandiose ladies he is referring to, and of whom he has met quite a few in his life, are all larger than life, such as the twin sister of the last Shah of Persia, from whose former estate Egan's "Pissarro" between the living room windows comes.

"Zigzags were around 1000 years ago!"

Lizzie Deshayes, designer

The apartment overlooking Castello Sforzesco previously belonged for 40 years to a signora named Carlotta - probably she too was one of those holy monsters*.* The first order of business in the renovation was to keep the star-shaped layout of the rooms around the entrance untouched! Egan furnished the rooms with favorite pieces from his collection of art and furniture, which had grown over decades. However, the furnishings were not really completed until this year's Salone, with two wallpapers by Fromental.

"Shopping at Prada - great! But living like this...?"

"I've known Tim and Lizzie for a long time, for the Mandarin Oriental on Lake Como we just developed a print version of the hand painted chinoiserie wallpaper in my library." Even more striking is the "Bargello" serrated pattern in the salon, reminiscent of Missoni fabrics. Auntie style? Fiddlesticks. Egan confidently hung a silkscreen from Warhol's drag series "Ladies and Gentlemen" in front of it. This lady lets it rip!
