AD as a book: The most beautiful rooms in the world
For the first time in the history of AD, all international editors have worked on a common project: To compile the best rooms of the last years in a book. The result is a compendium. We give a small foretaste.
When John Coke Brasfield moved from Tennessee to California in the early 20th century, he founded a magazine that not only reflected the ethos of the burgeoning modernist movement, but would also pave the way for many of the designers of his day: Architectural Digest. Over the course of the century, the magazine about the "New World" on the American West Coast grew into an influential international magazine that became a manifesto for style, design, interior, art and culture, exploring design beyond superficial trends and opening doors to closed worlds. (At the top, by the way, is Marc Jacobs' townhouse in New York, whose design takes into account the fashion designer's extensive art collection.)
Architectural Digest: The Most Beautiful Rooms in the World. Rizzoli, 336 p., $65.
The power of Architectural Digest has long since spread to Germany, Italy, Spain and France, Mexico and Russia, India, China and the Middle East - all of which have independent editions of AD. Now, for the first time in the brand's 100-year history, all the editors have joined forces to create a compendium of the most significant designers whose interiors have been published in recent years: a curated snapshot of the world's most spectacular, sensual and beautiful spaces.
