11 Questions for... Illustrator Anne Wenkel

Hello, I'm Anne Wenkel, freelance illustrator and artist from Berlin. And this is a text about me: Anne Wenkel mixes different materials and techniques such as woodcut, linocut, drawing, collage, calligraphy, sometimes extended with digital elements. With visual and narrative roots from Burkina Faso to Mexico, open to many things, always handmade and always taking a stand, Anne Wenkel works as much on free personal work as on client-based commissions. The biggest influence on her work is the love of travel, looking at the world with open eyes, and the fascination for all the inspiration that can be discovered in different cultures and around every corner. Anne Wenkel is currently working on her second book, "Taco Tales", illustrated recipe stories from Mexico, which will be published by Jaja Verlag in fall 2017.

02. Whatdid you want to be when you were little and why?

That's easy - I always kind of wanted to paint. Why? Because it allowed me to make the world the way I wanted it. Or because I found other children stupid and preferred to tinker alone? Or both. In any case, I have always painted, tinkered and drawn.
